What is Odoo Tally Connector?

One Gateway. Both Directions.
Nothing Guessed Silently.

Odoo Tally Connector talks directly to TallyPrime's own XML-over-HTTP gateway — no middleware, no relay agent, no third-party API. Every master (Ledgers, Stock Groups, Stock Items, Godowns, Cost Centres, Currencies, Units of Measure, Account Groups, GST Tax Ledgers) and every voucher type (Sales, Purchase, Credit/Debit Note, Payment, Receipt, Journal, Contra, Stock Journal) is imported and, for 7 of 9 master entities and all 9 voucher types, exported back — over the same connection.

Every entity runs the same seven-stage pipeline (Extract → Validate → DTO → Domain → Resolve → Map → Commit), with each record's own outcome tracked independently — so one malformed Tally record never blocks the rest of a batch, and every substitution, drop, or guess is logged as a visible Warning instead of silently "just working."

Core Architecture

Import from Tally, Export Back to Tally —
Same Pipeline Shape, Both Ways

A fixed per-entity Stage 0–6 shape, not a single monolithic dispatcher — so every entity is testable, and traceable, in isolation.

Import (Tally → Odoo)
  • Cron-driven or on-demand, per resource
  • Incremental via Tally's own $AlterID watermark
  • Auto Commit off by default — review before it lands
  • Per-field "Fields Tally May Update" toggles on every update
  • GUID identity, with a name-based fallback for hand-linked records
Export (Odoo → Tally)
  • Sales, Purchase, Credit/Debit Note, Payment, Receipt, Journal, Contra, Stock Journal
  • Payment/Receipt allocate against Odoo's own reconciliation
  • Durable export queue — pending → sent → acked/failed
  • Direct Push (live HTTP) or Manual File, per instance
  • A record must be linked to an instance first — automatic or by hand

Who Is This Module For?

Any business running Tally today that's moving finance, inventory, or CRM operations onto Odoo — without a risky big-bang cutover.

Traders & Distributors

Keep Tally for statutory books while Odoo runs sales, inventory, and CRM — ledgers, stock, and vouchers stay in sync both ways.

Manufacturing

Godown-to-godown Stock Journal transfers, Stock Group GST rates, and Cost Centre hierarchy all mirror Tally's own structure.

Accounting Firms

Serving multiple Tally clients from one Odoo instance — one connector instance per Tally company, cleanly separated.

Growing Enterprises

Migrating off Tally in phases — import full history once, then run both systems live with Auto Commit gating every change.

Built for Trust, Not Just Speed

"Imported Something Wrong" Is Worse
Than "Imported Nothing"

Every mechanism in this connector exists to turn a silent discrepancy into a visible one — a mismatched invoice total fails loudly rather than posting short or long, an unmatched unit of measure logs a Warning rather than guessing a conversion factor, and nothing reaches your books at all until Auto Commit says it can.

Total-Mismatch Guard
An invoice's own lines must reconcile to the header amount
Payload Log, Always
Every raw response archived, success or failure
Auto Commit Gate
Off by default — you review before it writes

Complete Feature Set

Everything a real Tally ⇄ Odoo sync demands — masters, vouchers, safety, and tools, in one module.

Feature 01

Nine Master Entities, Both Directions

One Ledger fetch serves both Account and Partner — Tally doesn't distinguish a Chart-of-Accounts ledger from a customer/supplier ledger, only its Group does, and this connector classifies it automatically. Seven of nine master entities export back to Tally once linked.

Ledgers → Account / Partner

Account type looked up against an editable, 26-group-seeded mapping table; an unrecognized group falls back to a configured default instead of guessing silently.

Stock Group + GST Rates

One fetch covers Odoo's category hierarchy and CGST/SGST/IGST rates together — Tally carries both on the same element. Intra-state pair becomes a product's default taxes; IGST is created for fiscal positions to pick.

Stock Item

Unit of measure matched by name, never created blind — a wrong conversion factor would silently corrupt every quantity downstream. Category and default taxes inherited from the item's own Stock Group.

Godown → Location

Becomes an internal stock.location under a dedicated "Tally Locations" parent — kept visibly separate from a warehouse's own operational tree.

Cost Centre, Currency, UoM, Account Group

Cost Centre mirrors Tally's own hierarchy into analytic accounts. Currency matches an existing Odoo currency by ISO/name/symbol, never invents one. UoM and Account Group each get their own dedicated pipeline.

GST Tax Ledger

A dedicated third fan-out branch alongside Account/Partner — a real GST duty-head ledger converges on the same shared account.tax records Stock Group's own rates create.

Feature 02

Nine Voucher Types, Both Directions

Every voucher type Tally supports, mapped to the correct Odoo document — and exported back the same way, including reconciliation-aware Payment/Receipt allocation.

Tally Voucher Odoo Document Notable Handling
Sales / PurchaseDraft invoiceNon-party (cash sale) falls back to a plain journal entry, opt-in
Credit Note / Debit NoteCustomer / vendor refundReversing polarity read from the voucher type, not derived
Payment / ReceiptDraft payment, unreconciledBank/cash leg found structurally, never by trusting Tally's own party field
JournalInvoice or plain entryRouted by whether a resolvable party exists
ContraPlain journal entryExport detected structurally — every line on cash/bank ledgers
Stock JournalInternal transfer (stock.picking)Three shapes detected structurally; a real transfer needs explicit confirmation before it moves stock
Feature 03

Payload Log & Safety Guards

Payload Log & Safety
  • Every raw response archived — success, warning, or failed
  • Numeric parsing: empty means zero, malformed raises — never a plausible wrong number
  • Invoice total-mismatch guard fails loud instead of posting short or long
  • Per-record isolation — one bad record never blocks the rest of a batch
Feature 04

Manual Linking & Duplicate Avoidance

Link to Tally Instance

Any existing Odoo record can be hand-linked to a Tally instance from its own form, making it export-eligible without waiting for an import.

Match-By-Field, Gated

Only where a field is a real identity guarantee — Partner by Email/Phone. Everything else is GUID + manual link + create, never a risky name guess.

One Link Per Instance

A base record can be linked from more than one Tally instance's own layer row — but never twice under the same instance.

Read-Only Once Committed

A committed link can't be silently repointed by editing it — delete and relink instead, so history stays honest.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before you install.

No. It POSTs directly to TallyPrime's own built-in XML-over-HTTP gateway (enabled under F1 → Settings → Connectivity, "Act as Server") from Odoo's own cron and server actions. There's no relay/agent process to install or maintain, as long as Odoo can reach Tally's network directly. If Odoo genuinely cannot reach Tally's LAN (e.g. Odoo.sh), the Manual File export mode covers the export side by letting you download and hand-import the XML.
No. Every entity runs through the same seven-stage pipeline (Extract → Validate → DTO → Domain → Resolve → Map → Commit), and from Stage 2 onward each record's own outcome is tracked independently. One malformed ledger or voucher fails and is logged with its own named stage and reason in the Payload Log — the rest of the batch keeps processing normally.
Yes, and it's the default. Every resource has its own Auto Commit switch, off by default on a new instance — with it off, a pull only stages a layer row for review, and nothing touches your actual Odoo record until you click "Commit to Odoo" by hand. Per-field "Fields Tally May Update" toggles further narrow what an update is even allowed to overwrite once you do turn Auto Commit on.
Both. Import covers all 20 entity types; export covers 7 of 9 master entities (Account, Partner, Stock Group, Stock Item, Godown, Unit of Measure, GST Tax Ledger) and all 9 voucher types. A master record must first be linked to a Tally instance — automatically by being synced from Tally, or by hand via "Link to Tally Instance" — before it becomes export-eligible; posting a voucher always queues it for push.
The Playground (Configuration → Playground) sends a request straight to the gateway with no pipeline in between — a wildcard fetch on one named record shows its full raw field shape from Tally, with a Field Coverage tab telling you whether a field came back ABSENT because of a TDL name typo or because it's genuinely empty on that record. Every real import/export also archives its raw request and response in the Payload Log for the same kind of after-the-fact inspection.
Yes. Each Tally company/gateway is set up as its own connector Instance, with every layer model's own uniqueness enforced per instance — so the same shared Odoo contact or account can legitimately be linked from more than one Tally company's own instance at once, exactly matching how Odoo's own multi-company contacts work.
Both Account and Partner opening balances post into one shared, per-instance draft journal entry — rebalanced against a configured offset account after every line — so you get a single reviewable entry rather than dozens of scattered postings. This is entirely optional: leave the Opening Balance Journal field blank on the instance and no such entry is created at all.
No. It talks to TallyPrime's own free, built-in gateway over plain HTTP using Python's `requests` library. There are no per-record fees, no external API subscriptions, and no separate relay software to license or maintain — it runs entirely within your existing Odoo instance and TallyPrime installation.
